Durham Register of Deeds Update 3/20/20

Holly Fraccaro, HBADOC CEO spoke to Sharon Davis, Durham County Register of Deeds regarding the department's ability to register titles so that home closing can continue as scheduled. 

In order to record a title, builder must:

• have Initial Title Search
• have Title Insurance Coverage, including GAP coverage (Title Companies are requiring builders to indemnify them of all risk from date of title search through closing).
• submit the attached disclosure:
  • Acknowledgement & Release

If all of the above are provided your Real Estate Attorney should be able to have the title manually recorded.  The Recorders office has indicate that it will take longer to complete the manual recording, so your patience with the ROD staff is greatly appreicated.

In response to the COVID-19 containment recommendations, the Register of Deeds office will go to half-staff beginning Monday, March 23.  There will always be a manager on duty.
